Jan. 4th, 2006 @ 12:48 pm A question about "Rats Saw God"
Current Mood: confusedconfused

So. When The Astronaut gives Steve the U DUB sweatshirt, at the end, he's pleased with it?

Okay, I realise it was picked out with some thought, and that's something more than Steve's used to, but how is it not a mean present, or is there something I'm not getting? Cause I've had my share of bad relationships and I would not want something with one of those guys' names on it as a present...

I think... (though I'd have to go track down my copy and re-read it to give you a better answer)... but my impression was that it was a gift saying 'You learned what you needed to from that relationship, time to move on'. And as such... yeah, I'd be happy with it. I probably wouldn't wear it around, but that's not the point of it, really.

Does that make sense?

It's been awhile since I read that, but I don't think his dad knew his girlfriend's nickname was Dub, did he? So the dad just thought he was getting his son a sweatshirt, not knowing it had this dual meaning.

That was how I read it as well.
